The Granville Foundation solicits tax-deductible charitable gifts to support non-profit organizations and individuals dedicated to making Granville, Ohio a stronger and better community. For 2008, the Foundation has awarded grants totalling $53,820. Thirteen non-profit and charitable organizations serving a broad cross-section of the Granville community were provided stipends ranging between $150 and $6,000. Funds will be used to enrich a wide array of social and educational services residents across a wide spectrum of age, need, and interest. Organizations that applied for and received assistance include:

Federated Clubs of Granville College Townhouse

The Foundation awarded $4,500 to the Federated Clubs of Granville for refurbishing Denison University's College Townhouse. Provided funding will support repair and replacement of flooring and new kitchen counter tops. The College Townhouse serves as a meeting place for a wide range of community organizations. The Foundation has awarded the Federated Clubs of Granville a three grants since 1982 for support of the Town House.

Granville Historical Society

The Granville Historical Society sought and was awarded a $5,000 grant for designing and printing Jacob Little's History of Granville written in 1845/46. The project's total expected cost is $6,000. with the balance to be funded by the First Presbyterian Church of Granville. The Granville Historical Society has previously called upon the Granville Foundation for similar projects, most recently in 2007 for the society's Trunk Show, a traveling exhibit for Granville Elementary School audiences.

Granville Fellowship

The Foundation awarded the Granville Fellowship $5,000 to assist its ongoing programs and projects for the community's senior citizens. This grant continues a tradition of support dating back to the Foundation's inception and will subsidize a monthly newsletter as well as five trips and two social gatherings. Open to anyone age 55 and over, the Fellowship's meeting center is in a sunny, first-floor room at the Granville Board of Education building. The Fellowship hosts are monthly birthday luncheons, weekly exercise sessions, watercolor classes, canasta and bridge games and a low-vision support group. Recently, the Fellowship began a writing project with Granville Middle School students; it's called 'Everyone has a story to tell.' Students interview Fellowship members and record them on tape or video, then write the stories based on what they have heard.

Granville High School

The Foundation voted to provide $5,500 to provide partial support for an “alternative spring break trip" by Granville High School students which will assist Hurricane Katrina victims in Pascagoula, Mississippi. With a total budget of some $24,000, the project's goal is to motivate students to help themselves by helping others. Previously, similar spring break trips by Granville High School students to the gulf coast disaster area were funded by federal disaster recovery grants, as well students who paid about $300 per person for the trip. The grant will make the trip more affordable to participants and provides $1,000 for project materials such as dry wall and roofing materials.

Granville Meals-on-Wheels Foundation

The Foundation awarded the Granville Meals-on-Wheels program $4,000 to assist the operation of its program's serving the community's shut-ins. This grant is the latest in a series of awards to the Meals-on-Wheels program dating back to 1977.

Granville Middle School Lacrosse Club

In its first request for assistance the Granville Middle School Lacrosse club was awarded a $2,180 grant to pay for two automated external defibrillators (AED) to be used by Granville youth/programs teams. In 2004, the Granville Foundation funded purchase of similar devices for the Granville Intermediate School through an application by the American Red Cross. While none of these devices have yet to be used, they are considered by the American Heart Association as valuable lifesavers in heart emergencies

Midland Theater

The Midland was awarded a $5,750 grant to provide artist residency activities for Granville elementary school students, members of the Granville Fellowship in partnership with Kendal at Granville, and the Granville High School Jazz Band. The Midland received similar grants from the Foundation in 2006 for $3,000 and in 2007 for $6,000. It was agreed unanimously that previously supported programs at the Midland granted programs have been well-received by the community and that the current grant will benefit a broad age and interest spectrum in the Granville community.

Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra

The Foundation has provided Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra with a $3,000 grant to support the organization's final concert of the season to be held at Denison University's Swasey Chapel on May 3, 2008. This funding will comprise about 11 percent of the concert's total budget of $27,000.. Successor to the Welsh Hills Symphony and Land of Legend Philharmonic, a consolidation accomplished in 2005, the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra continues the tradition of classical music .performance in Licking County to which the Granville Foundation has contributed annually since 1979. The Foundation was pleased to note that the Orchestra regularly provides complimentary tickets to Granville music teachers and their students, as well as Kendal at Granville resident

Rendville Artists Show

At the request of Laurie MacKenzie-Crane, the Foundation voted to provide a $150 grant to support the “Rendville Artists Visit Granville” art show, an exhibit at the Bryn Du Mansion by by developmentally disabled adult artists.

Robbins-Hunter Museum

Located in Granville's historic Avery Downer House, the Robbins-Hunter Museum was granted $2,500 to insure the success of several specific events and programs during 2008. . Foundation funds will be used to underwrite several exhibits: Artistry in Wool, Quilts by Centenary Church Ladies, Granville in World Wars I and II, and Yuletide Treasures. The total project is expected to cost $8,000, with the balance to come from the Licking County Foundation and the Licking County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Granville Foundation first assisted the Robbins-Hunter Museum with In 1985 and for many years subsequent.

Sonshine Pre-School

The Foundation awarded a $6,000 grant to the Sonshine Preschool for the purchase and installation of updated playground equipment. Affiliated with and sited at Spring Hills Baptist Church but with an IRS 501(a)/501(c)(3) designation of its own, the Sonshine Preschool has has 12 classes, five lead teachers, five assistant teachers and 125 students, all who are admitted under a policy of open enrollment.

Teen Center

The Foundation voted to provide a $3,240 award to Granville's Teen Center, a non-sectarian organization that provides after-school programs for middle school children . Housed at the First Presbyterian Church, the Teen Center under the leadership of Executive Director, Ellen Clark, aims to foster and further responsible behavior among the community's youth. The Granville Foundation has supported the Teen Center since 2002.

Vintage Voices of Granville

Granville's Vintage Voices organization was the recipient of a $1,500 Foundation grant. Led by long-time Granville vocal leader Theodosia “Teddy" Westlake, the Vintage Voices provides vocal music year-round to groups and organizations throughout Granville and Licking County. The group, equally important, provides a musical outlet to older men in the community, giving them the chance to perform for audiences and to fraternize with others in similar circumstance. The Foundation first voted to support the Vintage Voices in 1985.

Foundation Initiated Grants

In addition to grants made in response to applications from community groups, the Foundation has voted to continue its tradition of funding two $1,000 Charles and Marie Sellers Scholarships $1,500.00 Richard Daly Granville Bicentennial Scholarship which will be awarded to graduating seniors at the Granville High School's 2008 commencement. The Foundation also has voted to double its financial support for Christmas season charity from $1,000 to $2,000. These funds will be used to provide gifts and groceries for up to four needy families.
